Manager Product Development Mechatronic Engineering
Veenendaal, the Netherlands, fulltime


This fascinating position operates at the forefront of cancer treatment technology by overseeing a product portfolio of afterloaders, integrated systems and accessories. You lead a product development team of approximately 10 FTE, consisting of mechanical, electronic, embedded software/firmware, and system engineers.

Being involved from new concepts to installed products, you interact with the team, product managers, medical professionals, suppliers and other professionals of Elekta. As such, you act not only as a technical expert but also as a sensitive and energetic people manager able to create an environment of open communication and collaboration that will enable the tiny advances that make such a big difference.

In guiding and motivating the team you are responsible for several activity areas:

Personnel and team development

You attract, recruit, and retain capable individuals, building and managing a high-performance culture while establishing goals for individuals and the team. In doing so you:
  • Provide valuable support for problem identification, root cause analysis and decision-making;
  • Eliminate impediments and evolve systems and practices;
  • Stay close enough to the team to act as competent team leader while creating space for the team to solve problems themselves.

Program execution
Together with other functions you define the technology roadmap and drive new product developments. In doing so you:
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and external parties during product development and maintenance;
  • Coach the team in the use of technology, the appropriate engineering principles, design rules, and procedures;
  • Ensure compliant and efficient processes, and identify and implement process improvements.
  • Support during system engineering, design reviews, risk assessments, root cause analyses, and design transfer;
  • Build partnership with internal and external stakeholders (Elekta worldwide, suppliers) and participate in company and lean-agile demos, reviews, workshops, innovation days etc.

At all times you work within appropriate cost and time limits while seeking to create a high-performance environment in which individuals and teams are free to innovate and experiment.

Innovative in a highly regulated industry It is crucial that you have experience in managing highly educated technical engineers from different areas of expertise. Furthermore, it is important that you are equipped with the following personal and professional attributes:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field;
  • Extensive recent experience in the development of mechatronic devices, i.e. mechanical, electronic and embedded software/firmware engineering;
  • Experience with working in a highly regulated industry (preferably the medical industry) is an advantage;
  • Experience with 3D-CAD, preferably SolidWorks;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize and act on opportunities;
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills, preferably also Dutch
